I was picked to be a witness, Kozhikode blast main accused tells media in court

Kochi: ‘I did not place the bomb. I was brought here to be a witness. You should inform these things outside. I am innocent,’ Abdul Haleem shouted out at presspersons when he was taken by the police to the court yesterday. He repeated in the court too that he was innocent. He also wrote down what he had said and submitted in the court. He demanded CBI inquiry in the matter.

Abdul Haleem, arrested in connection with the Kozhikode blasts of 2006 and was in judicial custody, was brought to the court by the police who wanted his police remand. Kozhikode Judicial First Class Magistrate S Resmi issued an order sending the 33-year-old accused in the custody of the Crime Branch till August 6.
The court sent him into police remand on the appeal of D Rajan, Crime Branch DySP who is probing the case. The Court also ordered to allow the service of a doctor for the accused, since he informed he had a chest pain.

Haleem was brought to the Court from the district jail at 10 am yesterday in a huge police protection. After the court procedures, Haleem was taken away by the Crime Branch. The Crime Branch had asked the Court to give him in custody for 14 days. The CB began questioning Haleem on the same day. The Karnataka police is expected to reach the state to question Haleem, as his associates are supposed to have a role in the Bangalore blasts.

Abdul Haleem was arrested by the police on July 22 when enquiring about the Ernakulam blast. He was then remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. And now he has been sent to police custody since the police maintained that they needed to question him.
