The incident took place around 8 p.m. Monday near a computer institute in Sultanpuri in west Delhi when the victim was returning home with a male friend.

Near the Sultanpuri railway crossing, the accused thrashed the friend and dragged away the woman, a police officer said. After she was raped, she was dumped near the railway track.

The victim, a resident of Budh Vihar, teaches at a computer institute in Sultanpuri.

Earlier, a row erupted between officials of Nangloi and Sultanpuri police stations over the jurisdiction of the case, delaying investigation.

“We will catch those behind the incident,” Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal told reporters. He promised an inquiry into the embarrassing tussle between the two police stations.
