Tendency of suspecting Muslim is against the nation’s culture: Js VR Krishna Iyer

Kochi: The tendency of ‘suspecting if Muslim and suspecting more if Ma’dani’ is not apt for the nation’s culture, opined Js VR Krishna Iyer. Such attitude would lead to human rights violations, he said while inaugurating the Human Rights Protection Conference organized by the Neethi Samrakshana Vedi in Kochi.

He said that it was not right to arrest and imprison any citizen purely on the basis of suspicion. No court should allow it. No one should be accused because of his name. Ma’dani was released finding him innocent after nine years in jail. It should be examined whether there is clear evidence against him or only the suspicion of the police in case Ma’dani is jailed this time. He added that Ma’dani too should be provided the justice that any other citizen is provided.

There should be a combined effort from the part of human rights activists not to let Ma’dani for another hunt, said Jamat e Islami Amir T Arifali while delivering the chief address. Measures should be taken when making laws to prevent the misuse of law by the law-enforcers. Misuse of law is taking place in the case of Ma’dani. This affects not only Ma’dani but can be used against anybody anytime. Those powers that do not like the country to become a super power are behind the anti-Muslim-Dalit moves. The big powers are planting terrorist tendencies among certain sections and attracting people to it with an agenda to destabilize the country through internal decay. The Muslim-Dalit sections themselves should take the initiative to be aware of the conspiracies. Terrorism should be opposed vehemently, but it should be by hunting innocents, he added.

Adv KP Muhammed (Kerala Muslim Jamat Federation general secretary) presided over the conference. Dr Neelalohithadasan Nadar (former minister and BSP leader), Felix J Pulloodan (KLCA), Kanhar Abdurrazaq Moulvi (INL), P Mujeeb Rahman (Solidarity), Meeran Baqawi, Poonthura Siraj (PDP) and Saji Cheraman (BSP) spoke. Neethi Samrakshana Vedi general convener H Shaheer Moulvi welcomed and PDP district president Veeran Kutty delivered the vote of thanks.
