Rathore challenges conviction in court

Chandigarh: Former Haryana police chief S.P.S. Rathore's counsel filed a plea in the court here Monday, challenging his conviction in the Ruchika Girhotra molestation case.

The court will take up his plea Tuesday for hearing.

Rathore was held guilty on Dec 21 last year by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special court of molesting 15-year-old Ruchika Girhotra in Panchkula town Aug 12, 1990, and was sentenced to a six-month prison term. He was also slapped a fine of Rs.1,000.

However, Rathore was immediately granted bail.

Earlier in the day, the Punjab and Haryana High Court here adjourned the hearing on the anticipatory bail plea filed by Rathore against the two First Information Reports (FIRs) registered against him by the Haryana police.
