WB Govt. invites application for 2010-11 post-matric scholarships

Kolkata: The West Bengal government has invited applications from meritorious minority students for three types of post-matric scholarships for the year 2010-11. The last date for submission of application forms for the state, central and Haji Md. Mohsin scholarships is 16th August 2010.

The Minority Affairs and Madarsa Education department of West Bengal government has made announcement for three kinds of post-matric scholarships: sponsored by state government, sponsored by Central government and Haji Md. Mohsin scholarship that is given from the fixed endowment fund of Haji Md. Mohsin.

The scholarship sponsored by the state government is available for those minority students who secured the following percentage of marks in their previous final examination: Madhyamik or equivalent (65%), Higher Secondary or equivalent (60%), Graduation or Alim, Kamil, Fazil ((50%). Besides, the annual income of their family should be below Rs. 80,000/. Selection will be made on the basis of merit and income and selected candidates will be given the scholarship for the entire period of course.

According the ministry notice, the rate of state government-run scholarship will be like this: Higher Secondary or Equivalent (Rs. 6000/- p.a,), Under Graduate (Rs. 9000/- p.a.) and Post Graduate (Rs. 14400/- p.a.)

The centrally sponsored scholarship will be granted to economically weaker students belonging to minority community who secured 50% marks in their previous final examination and annual family income is upto Rs. 2.00 lakh. The selection will be made on the basis of merit and family income as per ascending order and will be given for the entire course duration.

The Union Ministry of Minority Affairs has given West Bengal government a target of 44462 units of Post-matric scholarship for 2010-2011. Of them, 42720 scholarships will be for Muslims.

The Haji Md. Mohsin Scholarship will be awarded out of fixed endowment fund of Haji Md. Mohsin to Muslim students from poor families.

Application forms can be obtained from the office of West Bengal Minorities Development & Finance Corporation [WBMDFC] or from the field supervisors of WBMDFC in the districts. It can also be downloaded from http://www.wbmdfc.org.

The last date of submission of applications is 16th August 2010. Application should be submitted through the concerned institution or school at the office of concerned District Magistrate, Minority Cell while application for the district of Kolkata should be submitted through concerned institution or school directly at the Annex Shed Office of WBMDFC, Bhabani Bhavan Compound, Alipore, Kolkata-700027.

The government has asked applicants to open Bank A/c. in a commercial bank as the scholarship amount would be sent in their account or will be paid through cheques.
