Thiruvananthapuram: Protests are strengthening on the avoidance of students belonging to the backward classes from attending the UGC NET exam. The Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam (SNDP) and the Campus Front of India yesterday organized demonstrations to the examination centre in Thiruvananthapuram.
Justice should be ensured to the students of the backward classes, said CK Vidyasagar, inaugurating the march of the SNDP. The backward class students too could have written the exam had the Education Minister MA Baby intervened in the matter in time. Instead the minister has left the matter making the Vice Chancellor of the Kerala University to write a letter to the UGC. The minister should make it clear whether the students who could not write the exam yesterday would be able to write it. The university has done great injustice to the backward class student and measures should be taken against those responsible, he added. Adv A Pookunhu of the Samvarana Samudaya Munnani (alliance of the communities having reservation), Kunhumuhammed of the Muslim Education Society, Kilimanoor Chandrababu and CS Sujathan of the SNDP spoke.
The Campus Front of India also marched to the NET examination centre in Thiruvananthapuram yesterday protesting against the avoidance of thousands of backward class students from the exam. The march which began from the Secretariat was stopped in front of the SMV School (examination centre) by the police. People should recognize the ‘savarna’ conspiracy in avoiding the backward class students, said A Nahas, Campus Front state secretary, while inaugurating the programme. The political parties and student organizations which go on talking about love for minorities have kept silent in this matter. The Kerala University also should give chance to the students to write the exam. The Campus Front vowed to go forward with strong agitation if the students were not allowed to write the exam. District president Riyas, secretary Shameer etc led the demonstration.
