In a letter to the Prime Minister, former minister said that giving reservation to Muslims in JMI may turn this institution into the hands of the fundamentalist forces.

Reacting strongly to this letter, Murshid Kamal, president of Jamia Alumni Assoication of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia said that it is “provocative, unwarranted and uncalled for.”

The statement issued by the Alumni Association said that it is unfortunate that Arjun Singh who projected as the champion of secularism throughout his life is now speaking the language of the fascist forces. The statement recalled that Arjun Singh during his tenure as HRD minister had opposed implementation of 37% OBC quota in JMI. Arjung Singh was honored by naming a Centre and a housing complex after him.

The Alumnis demanded the government to refrain from implemting 27% OBC quota in JMI and they also support the movement launched by Jamia Minority Character Restoration Co-ordination Committee.

Jamia Millia Islamia was established in 1920 by Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar for Muslim students who took part in Non-Cooperation Movement.
