New Delhi: The people of Bihar have voted for economic growth and development, rising above the sectarian politics of caste and religion, Indian industry leaders said Wednesday, congratulating Nitish Kumar on his thumping electoral victory.
“It is clear people of Bihar have risen above sectarian aspects of societies in terms of caste and religious persuasion to vote for economic development at grassroots level,” said Amit Mitra, secretary-general of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
“It seems development has won the day and will become the mantra of the future, not only in Bihar but in all states of India in the future. This development slogan must become the paradigm of electoral victories of the future,” Mitra said.
The Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal-United (JD-U) and its ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance rode to victory on its development plank and was projected to win an incredible 206 of the 243 states.
“Bihar voters have created another milestone in this journey towards growth, cleaner governance, effective use of resources and inclusion,” the FICCI general-secretary said.
Chandrajit Banerjee, director general of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), congratulated Nitish Kumar on his re-election for the second term.
Said Swati Piramal, president of Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry: “The efforts made by Bihar government in the last five years to register one of the highest growth rates in recent years have been well acknowledged both nationally and internationally.”
“The Chamber has no doubt that the state government will focus more keenly on accelerating the pace of growth,” Piramal added.
