Development main issue in Bihar polls, says BJP

By IANS,

New Delhi : Stressing that development was the main issue in the Bihar assembly polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday said the state’s alliance government led by the Janata-Dal-United (JD-U) will return to power with an absolute majority.

“The main issue is development. The Nitish Kumar-Sushil Modi combination has done good work. They will be voted back on performance,” former BJP president Venkaiah Naidu said here.

He claimed even Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had admitted that the state has seen development in the last few years but had attributed it to the funds given by the central government.

Money with the central government belonged to people and not to any political party, Naidu said.

He said the JD(U)-BJP alliance government in the state had also brought about improvement in law and order and worked to provide better roads, hospitals and water supply.

“That’s why people are in our favour,…I have full faith that the ruling alliance will get clear-cut majority,” he said.

The BJP leader said people had given “positive vote” irrespective of caste, religion and region in the first phase of polling Thursday.

The six-phase election to the 243-member state assembly started Oct 21. The other dates of polling are Oct 24, Oct 28, Nov 1, 9 and 20. Votes will be counted Nov 24.
