Veteran JIH leader Maulana Shafi Moonis passes away

New Delhi: The senior most leader and Honorary Advisor and former vice president of Jamaat e Islami Hind, Muhammad Shafi Moonis passed away today at 1:30 p.m. due to brain hemorrhage at his residence in New Delhi.

The 93 years old leader was born on 1918 in Village- Kulheri, District- Muzaffar Nagar, and U.P. After completing his education, worked as a teacher in Ajmeri Gate Higher Secondary School, Delhi, before joining Jamaat-e-Islami on full time basis. He also served as General Secretary of All India Muslim Majlis Mushawrat from 1995 to 2000.

He represented the Jamaat in Forum for Democracy and Communal Amity (FDCA), Muslim Personal Law Board, Deeni Taleemi Council in addition to his participation in a number of social, charitable and political forums. He was among the pioneers who rendered invaluable services to the unity of Muslims

He was attached with Jamaat since 1944 to till his last breath. He performed various responsibilities of Jamaat like Local President, Ghaziabad Local President, Delhi, Zonal President Delhi & Western U.P. Zonal President Hyderabad State Andhra Pradesh, Secretary General, Member Central Advisory Council and Representative Council of the Jamaat. Presently he was Honorary Advisor for Jamaat and Member Central Advisory Council and Representative Council of the Jamaat.

On his demise President (Ameer) of Jamaat e Islami Hind, Maulana Jalaluddin Umari expressed his deep sorrow and grief and said, ‘a vacuum is created with his demise which seems difficult to fill. His services to the Jamaat and the community are countless and invaluable.May Allah elevate his position, Ameen.’

Syed Shahabuddin, president of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat said that Maulana Moonis “was a great pillar of the the Indian Muslim community for the last six decades and played an active and leading role in all the affairs of the community these past decades.”
“A certain void has been created by the death of such a senior leader of the community who was involved with its affairs till his last days. While we deeply condole his sad demise, we pray to Allah ta’ala for his maghfirat and high station in Paradise, “ read the statement joined issued by Syed Shahabuddin and Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan, editor of the Milli Gazette and working president of the Mushawarat.
