Patna: The Bihar Cabinet yesterday gave nod to set up a judicial commission to inquire into the Forbesganj police firing but the victims’ families will have to wait for at least six long months to see any action against the guilty police officers as the deadline for submission of report has been fixed six months.
Six poor Muslims were killed and over a dozen injured in police firing on June 3 while they were protesting against the blockage of their road in Bhajanpur village of Forbesganj block in Araria district of Bihar.
The inquiry commission will be headed by either a sitting or a retired judge of the Patna High Court. The commission will submit its report within six months. It will probe circumstances leading to the police firing, role and responsibility of the cops and people involved in the incident and the root causes of the incident.
After the cabinet meeting, Principal Secretary (Cabinet Coordination and Secretariat) Ravikant informed media persons that the Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar gave its node to the decision to constitute a judicial commission to probe Forbesganj police firing.
Mr. Ravikant said that the decision was taken on the recommendation of Home Secretary Amir Subhani and Additional Director General of Police (ADG), Headquarters, Rajyavardhan Sharma, who visited Forbesganj for preliminary inquiry.
