Forbesganj firing: Governor holds meeting with top officers

Patna: Taking notice of the outrage over Forbesganj police firing, Governor Devanand Konwar held a meeting with the top brass of administration on Wednesday and sought information about all the developments in the case since it happened.

Expressing his grief on the incident and terming it painful, he asked the officers to take the case seriously. He recommended government to take measures for redressal of victims and to conduct an impartial probe into the incident to ensure justice to the victims.

The meeting was attended by Home Secretary Amir Subhani, Director General of Police Neelmani, Chief Secretary Anup Mukherjee and Additional Director General of Police (ADG), Headquarters, Rajyavardhan Sharma.

Earlier in the morning, a joint delegation of RJD and LJP met Governor and informed him about the police barbaric action against the poor Muslims who were protesting against blockage of their road. They demanded a time-bound probe into the incident by sitting judge of High Court bringing Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi, BJP MLC Ashok Agrawal and Forbesganj SDO Girwar Dayal Singh within the ambit of the probe.

The delegation led by leader of Opposition in Bihar legislative assembly Abdul Bari Siddiqui, comprised RJD MP Ram Kripal Yadav, former RJD MP Alok Kumar Mehta, former LJP MP Ramchandra Paswan, general secretaries of LJP Raghvendra Singh Kushwaha, Mehtab Alam and Lallan Prasad Singh.

The leaders reiterated their demand of Rs. 10 lakh for each family of victims and job to one person from the each family. They also appealed to the Governor to use his power for immediate action against guilty police officers under Section 302 or 304 of the IPC and for providing security to the villagers who are living under constant fear.

Six poor Muslims were killed and more than a dozen were injured in the police firing on June 3 while they were protesting against blocking the road by a starch and glucose factory in Bhajanpur village of Forbesganj block in Araria district of Bihar.
