Central Madrasa education renovation project to be implemented in Kerala also

Kozhikode: The central government project to renovate Madrasa education is coming to Kerala also. Order has been reportedly issued to implement the project in the state. The project consists of providing central financial aids for the teaching of science, mathematics and languages in the madrasas.

The Deputy Secretary of the Department of Human Resources Development had reportedly written to the state government directing it to implement the project in the state. Accordingly, the Director of General Education in the state then issued an order on the matter this month, according to reports.

Science, mathematics, social science, languages and computer applications will be taught in the madrasas receiving central aids. A full-time graduate teacher will be paid Rs 6,000 per month and a post-graduate teacher with B Ed will be paid Rs 12,000 per month in a year in the madrasa. Only three teachers will be eligible for this aid in a madrasa. There should also be at least ten students to learn a subject.

Rs 1 lakh will be provided to madrasas in the secondary/senior secondary level to organise any one among – science, computer lab and workshop. Rs 5000 will be provided annually for repair and others. Rs 50,000 will be provided to renovate the library in a madrasa; an annual grant of Rs 5,000 also will be allotted. Rs 15,000 will be provided to buy science-mathematics kits. An amount of Rs 100 will be allowed daily for 15 days towards the training of teachers.

The madrasas will be registered in the secondary/senior secondary level under the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and the students will be allotted registration fees, examination fees and aid for study materials. All the madrasas functioning for three years in the state are eligible for the aid. The institution should be functioning as per the central-state laws, and should be registered under the Madrasa Board, Waqf Board or the NIOS. The applications should reach the Deputy Director of Education in the respective districts by 5 pm on November 21.
