WB: After Imams, now a demand for honorarium for Muazzins

Kolkata: After the honorarium of Imama of Masjid, demands of Muazzin raised by a religious leader Pirzada Toha Siddique, Pir of Furfura Sharif, Hooghly, West Bengal. Pir Toha Siddiqui met Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Writers Building, the Chief Minsiter Secretariat Office on 28th April.

Thanking Mamata Banerjee for honorarium to the Imam, he said, Muazzin call for Namaz five times in a day. So, beside the Imam they should also get honorarium form the State Government. Toha Siddiqui discussed Muazzin’s honorarium with the Chief Minister and informed her that 30,000 Muazzin in West Bengal are living in very poor condition. Due to their obligation to give azaan five times in the mosque, like Imams, a Muazzin also can not work other than giving azaan.

Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee heard very carefully Toha Siddiqui’s demands, but did not give him any assurance. She has allocated Rs. 30 crores for the Imam’s salary project, according to an official source.
