Gujarat top cops told People’s Tribunal about Modi’s go-soft instruction
By Md. Ali, TwoCircles.net,
New Delhi: Even after the SIT has completed its investigation in the 2002 Post-Godhra riot case, trouble refuses to die down for the controversial Chief Minster of the Indian state of Gujarat, Narendra Modi, who has been accused of supervising genocide of Muslims in the state in 2002.
After former senior Gujarat cops like RB Sreekumar and Sanjeev Bhatt, another former Director General of Police has disclosed that senior Gujarat police officers had told him that they were under the instruction by the Gujarat CM to “respect Hindu sentiments” and go slow on the rioters.

Subramanian's affidavit which mentions what Gujarat cops told him about Modi's instruction
KS Subramanian, former DGP, Tripura has said that then DGP Gujarat K Chakravarty and the then Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad, PC Pande had told him that in a meeting held on February 27, 2002, Modi had specifically instructed them not to act against the rioters even though there was some possibility of law and order situation going out of hand next day on February 28, 2002.
Subramanian said that Pande and Chakravarty candidly told him about Modi’s instruction when he (Subramanian) met the two senior cops as a member of the People’s Fact Finding Tribunal constituted to look into the facts relating to the Post-Godhra carnage.
“The applicant was candidly told by Mr. Chakravarty that the Chief Minister had said to those present at the meeting that a bandh has been called by the VHP on February 28.02.2002 to protest against the Godhra killings and...the BJP was supporting the Bandh and that there may be law and order problems the officers should respect Hindu sentiments and act accordingly,” reads the affidavit filed by Subramanian, the former DGP of Tripura on May 23, 2011 in the Supreme Court. A copy of the affidavit is with TwoCircles.net.
Other members of People’s Tribunal were former Supreme Court judges Justice VR Krishna Iyer and Justice PB Sawant, Justice Hosbet Suresh and Mr. KG Kannibaran.
Subramanian also told media that the SIT which was constituted by Supreme Court to investigate into the Post-Godhra riots, didn’t go into the report prepared by the People’s Tribunal. The tribunal had indicted the Modi administration for neglecting its duty and not stopping the riots which broke out in February 2002 after the Godhra train carnage.
The SIT on its part had reportedly said that the tribunal’s report came before its investigative team which ignored the report because it was based on heresies.
