NWF demands release of deserving Muslim prisoners on compassionate ground

Chennai: The National Women Front on this past Sunday organized protest rallies in various cities of Tamil Nadu demanding the state government to release Muslim prisoners who are languishing in jail for more than seven years on compassionate ground. NWF urged the government to use powers given to it by Indian Constitution and Criminal Procedure Code to release convicts serving life-term.

National Women Front holding rally on 24th June 2012 to demand release of Muslim prisoners in Tamil Nadu

NWF demanded the release of Muslim prisoners on former Chief Minister C. N. Annadurai’s birth anniversary (September 15).

Members of NWF gathered in four cities namely Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai and Tirunelveli of Tamil Nadu. The group, women’s wing of Popular Front of India, demanded that not only Muslims but members of other communities who are eligible to be considered for release under compassionate grounds should also be released.

“There are 49 Muslim prisoners who have completed seven years of jail term and we request the government to take into account the plight of the womenfolk and release them,” said Fathima Kani, State executive council member, NWF while address the rally in Madurai.

Advocate Yusuf, National Secretary of NCHRO also addressed at the public meeting after the rally in Madurai.
