Jaipur : In yet another accident at a Jaipur Metro construction site, a 24-year old labourer died after he fell off a beam here Sunday, police said.
It is the 12th death at a Metro construction sites in the city since work on lying the about nine-km-long track began in November 2010.
According to the police, the deceased, identified as Vinod Kumar, was a resident of Banaras in Uttar Pradesh.
“He was a welder and working on a 30-feet high beam at the Civil Lines metro construction site around 6 a.m. when the accident occurred,” a police officer told IANS. The work is being carried out by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC)
After finishing his shift, Kumar was getting down the beam when he lost balance and fell to the ground, the officer said adding that he sustained severe head injuries leading to his death.
“He was not wearing a safety belt and did not have other safety equipment on. He was declared brought dead by doctors at the SMS Hospital,” said the officer.
DMRC announced Rs.2 lakh compensation for the family of the deceased. The accident occurred a day after DMRC officers launched a Metro Safety Week in the city.
