Panaji : Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said Wednesday that an all-party meeting will be called to discuss ways to negotiate the imbroglio caused by the Supreme Court-imposed ban on mining in the state.
“Leaders of all political parties will be called to attend the meeting soon. Let us collectively find a way out of this. This is a problem which affects thousands of people. The party should not be a matter of consideration here,” Parrikar said.
The Congress has been attacking the chief minister’s alleged mishandling of the mining sector ever since he came to power. The chief minister on the other hand has blamed the seven years of Congress rule from 2005-2012 for the mining scam which has been pegged at Rs.35,000 crore by a judicial commission appointed to probe illegal mining in Goa.
Parrikar now wants the central government to bail out the stakeholders dependent on mining with a financial package.
“The central government has to provide a financial package for them. This is our demand because the central government has earned a lot of money from the mining industry in Goa,” Parrikar said.
