18 killed in three accidents in China

Beijing: At least 18 people were killed and more than 40 injured in three separate accidents in China Saturday, officials said.

Nine people were killed and eight seriously injured after a bus crashed through a road barrier and fell into a ravine in northwest China’s Ningxia Hui region, Xinhua reported.

The accident occurred in Longde county of Guyuan city when the bus with 17 people onboard overturned and ultimately fell into the ravine, the regional fire brigade said.

In another accident, seven people were killed and 10 injured when a heavy-duty truck collided head-on with an agricultural tricycle in north China’s Hebei province, authorities said.

The truck crashed into the tricyle in Chengde cityy while overtaking other vehicles, the city government said.

Three people were killed at the scene and four died after emergency treatment failed at a local hospital. The truck driver was arrested.

In another collision, in Xinjiang Uygur region, two people died and 29 were injured when a sleeper bus hit a truck, police said.

The bus carrying 44 passengers hit the truck on the Korla-Kuqa highway in Bayingolin Mongol prefecture.

Traffic on the highway was temporarily disrupted, but resumed later in the morning. All the injured were pulled out of the bus, police said.
