New Delhi: Rural Development Minsiter Jairam Ramesh has written a “personal letter” to the Chief Minister of Kerala Oommen Chandy to draw his “specific attention to the plight” of Jazeera V, who met the Minister and spoke about her struggle against illegal sand mining in her home district Kannur.
Jazeera, the burqa clad tall and lanky lady from Kerala’s Kannur district, 31 year old Jazeera V has been fighting the lonely battle for over a year now with her two daughters – 13 year old Riswana and 9 year old Shifana – and a baby boy Mohammad, against the sand mafia in Kannur district, breaking all stereotyping of a Muslim woman.
In the letter, Ramesh mentions that although Jazeera is bold, her personal plight works pitiable, adding that “her demands has merit as she is opposing illegal sand mining.”
Along with the letter the Minister has forwarded the joint petition put in on her behalf by reputed activists, and urged Chandy to “order a fair enquiry by an independent and credible authority and take appropriate action to redress her grievance.”
The Minister has also requested Jazeera to withdraw her agitation.
Jazeera and her children came to Delhi on Sunday and are staging protest outside the Kerala House. She says, she is trying to meet the Environment Minister, she says to bring to the notice of the Ministry about illegal rampant sand mining in her native district.
