While the University maintains that the Registrar has resigned on his own citing health grounds, while the Group Captain Shahrukh Shamshad alleged that he was forced to resign “under duress” and wanted to take back his resignation.

The University has, however, clarified that the Registrar “willingly tendered his resignation” at 9.30 am on Monday which the Vice Chancellor accepted at 10 am and it was promulgated.

Dr. Rahat Abrar, PRO of the University said that the Registrar did send an email at 11.26 am alleging that he had resigned under duress, but argued that it is a baseless allegation and the Vice Chancellor has not allowed him to retract the resignation. “Once a resignation is promulgated, it cannot be retracted”, the PRO said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Asfar Ali Khan of the Department of Electrical Engineering has been appointed officiating Registrar till the selection of a new Registrar is made.

The University administration also expressed surprise that a group of students “tried to create a ruckus on an issue, which does not concern them at all.”
