“It is a matter of deep concern for the whole civil society that five youth who were in the judicial custody, hand cuffed, were killed by the police in cold blooded manner while bringing them to the court of law. The story planted by the top brass of police is nothing but a bundle of lies and it seems that high level police officers already planned the killing of five youths to send the message to the Muslim community that their lives are based on the mercy of the police. It is a clear act of suppression. In this killing a particular mind set is working and the Telangana police is completely under the influence of fascist mindset,” CLMC said in a statement here.

The five persons who lost their lives on Tuesday are Mohammed Viqaruddin, Mohammed Haneef, Amjed Ali, Riyaz Khan, all from Hyderabad, and Izhar Khan from Uttar Pradesh. All of them were accused of forming a militant organization Tehreek-e-Galba-e-Islami and running a hit squad targeting police officers. Police had already termed it as an “encounter”.

The recent custodial deaths, encounter killings, killing of prisoners, illegal detentions all these clearly indicate that nothing has changed in the newly formed state of Telangana, the statement said. “But the fact of the matter is that the human rights violations are on its peak level. K Chandrasekhar Rao, chief minister of Telangana, who had given assurances during the Telangana movement to the Muslim community, has now turned off his face and playing in the hands of police,” Lateef Mohammad Khan, general secretary, CLMC said.

The Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee claimed it wanted to clear that these five Muslim prisoners were in judicial custody and to protect their life is the responsibility of state and judiciary.

The Committee has hence demanded: Telangana chief minister should act as per the assurance given or resign from the post; Judiciary of Telangana state must come forward to protect the Muslim prisoners as they are in judicial custody, Judiciary should take action suo moto and release of the illegally detained Muslims in Telangana and Andhra regions.

The CLMC will start a campaign against the degrading standards of human rights in the state of Telangana and initiate a movement against the state, the statement added.
