Rahul Gandhi wants net neutrality discussed in LS

New Delhi : Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday moved a motion for suspension of question hour to discuss net neutrality.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, however, refused to admit the notice.

Gandhi is expected to speak on the issue in parliament.

“I am going to mention a few words about net neutrality in the parliament…you will hear it,” he told reporters outside parliament.

A discussion under an adjournment motion is followed by voting, and is supposed to be taken up for urgent matters.

Network neutrality, or open inter-working, means that in accessing the World Wide Web, one is in full control over how to go online, where to go and what to do, as long as these are lawful. It advocates that firms that provide Internet services should treat all lawful Internet content in a neutral manner.
