Separate parameters for IISERs under National Ranking Framework: Smriti Irani

Kolkata : The National Ranking Framework (NRF) will have a separate set of parameters for the premier Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) from the next academic year, said Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani.

“The NRF introduced by India to denote rankings of higher education institutes in the country will have a separate set of parameters for IISERs from the next academic year,” she said at the fourth convocation of the IISER, Kolkata at Nadia district’s Mohanpur.

Irani said IISERs have contributed significantly in the study of basic sciences within a very short period.

“These institutes went ahead forging academic collaboration links with renowned institutes abroad and this will allow the students to access academic facilities abroad while studying at the Indian institutions. This will effectively stem the trend of students going to foreign institutions post their Bachelor and Masters study,” she said.

IISER, Kolkata, was established in 2006 with the central theme of integrating education with research so that undergraduate teaching as well as doctoral and postdoctoral research work could be carried out in symbiosis.
