Brussels : European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana has expressed hope that the current contacts between Iraq and Turkey would lead to positive results.
“I think that the fact that the Minister for Foreign Affairs has been in Iraq, from Turkey, and now they have a mission also from Iraq into Ankara today (Thursday), I hope that these bilateral negotiations will be constructive, positive and the situation between Ankara and Baghdad will be a constructive one,” Solana told reporters.
“We make an appeal to both sides to cooperate in a constructive manner.”
Solana said he had been in contact with Ankara and Baghdad and if he has the time he would like to visit the two places. “But we have to see if that is possible at this moment because, as you know, there are plenty of meetings that are taking place between the two capitals, in both places,” Solana added.
