Delhi to host World Cup shooting in 2010

New Delhi : India will host the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Cup here in March 2010.

The ISSF in its meeting Thursday decided to allot the World Cup to India. This will be the first ISSF World Cup from where shooters will qualify for 2012 Olympic Games in London.

In all 15 ‘Quota Places’ will be decided for 2012 Olympic Games in rifle, pistol and shotgun events, the ISSF decided at its meeting in Beijing.

The break-up of the Quota Places is: Rifle men 3, pistol men 3, rifle women 2, pistol women 2, shotgun men 3 and shotgun women 2.

A large number of shooters are expected participate from all over the world. This event will be conducted on the same ranges where shooting event for Commonwealth Games 2010 will take place, National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) said in a release.

NRAI will also host Commonwealth Shooting Championship from Feb 18-28 in the same year.

As per rules, the host country of Commonwealth Games must conduct Commonwealth Shooting Championship prior to Commonwealth Games. Accordingly, this event will also be used to test the range facilities, which we hope to be ready by that time, the release said.
