Official sources told News Agency of Kashmir that Sadaqat Hussain son of Muhammad Bashir of Chilas Morha was working in his field on the other side of border fence, early this morning.

The farmer accidentally stepped on a land mine leading to a hugem explosion. He was rushed to Rajouri hospital, where his right leg was reportedly amputated.

It is pertinent to mention here that army had converted all the agriculture land along the LOC into mine fields keeping in view the increasing tension along the border in 2002. However, with the improvement in the situation the land mines were removed and the farmers were asked to work in their fields.

Despite the assurances by the army authorities that the land was fit for agriculture purpose more than one hundred people have lost their lives and several others have been rendered disabled in such incidents.
