Muslims of Mumbai formed an organization called “Muslim Peoples Movement for Justice” last week to pressure the government in implementing Srikrisna Commission report which looked into the cause of anti-Muslim riots of 1992-93 in Mumbai.

The organization has decided to hold a rally at Azad Maidan in Mumbai on 20th August. Mr. Safaraz Arzu editor of Urdu daily ‘Hindustan’ and a member of the new organization informed that they plan to make it a huge rally with more than 200,000 people.

Mr. Arzu said that Congress government seems least bothered by the fact that while people who were involved in the post-riots blasts were sentenced but no action has been taken against people found to be involved in the riots.

There are more than 100 people still missing since the riots, informed Mr. Arzu. No compensation has been given for 45 people.

The movement will take up the time up to 20th August to file queries under the Right to Information Act to know that how many cases are pending and what is their status, he lamented. They are expected to go to the courts seeking that the cases be expedited.
