Baghdad : US-Iranian talks will be held in Baghdad on Monday with attendance of Iraqi government representatives.
An Iraqi Foreign Ministry source told KUNA the ministry completed all the preparations for the meeting between the US and Iranian sides to discuss the joint security committee on Iraq.
The third round of talks will discuss the tripartite committee’s agenda that will group representatives from Iran, the US, and Iraq.
Foreign Undersecretary Mohammed Al-Hajj Mahmoud said the meeting will discuss the committee’s political and security mechanisms.
Last month, two meetings were held between the US and Iranian sides in Baghdad where all sides agreed to support democracy, security, and stability in Iraq and create a tripartite committee to monitor the borders and militias in Iraq.
In a related aspect, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani hoped that the talks would be a success for the interest of the Iraqi people.
An official Iraqi statement upon receiving the Iranian delegation which includes Iranian ambassador Hassan Kathimi Qomi said Talabani expressed his hope that the Iranian side would play a positive role regarding the Iraqi people’s expectations.
The Iranian ambassador had earlier said the meeting will be held on the level of security experts to discuss the formation of a tripartite committee that was agreed upon during a July 24 meeting.
