At Gunpur town, the level was 82.90 as against the danger mark of 83, he said. The district headquarters of Rayagada is around 400 km from Bhubaneswar.

Several parts of the state witnessed heavy showers since Saturday. The Bhubaneswar Meteorological office has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Orissa in the coming days.

Since June, several parts of the state have witnessed floods triggered by heavy rains. About 50 people were killed and over two million affected by the deluge.

The Orissa government has alerted relief and administrative officials of all its 30 districts to remain alert as the downpour may trigger floods again.
