Dhaka : Prices of oral rehydration salts (ORS) powder and water purifying tablets have doubled in a week, hampering treatment of waterborne ailments as Bangladesh fights its worst floods in many years.
The New Age newspaper quoted relatives of patients and residents of low-lying areas of Dhaka as saying that the price of ORS now ranged from Taka 90-120 for a 20-piece packet. It was Taka 60 a few days ago.
Flood-affected people, especially from poor families, are the worst sufferers, said Abid Hossain Mollah, a professor of paediatrics at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
