Federer’s lead shrinks after Montreal defeat

Hamburg : Roger Federer’s lead in the men’s tennis rankings, issued Monday by the ATP, shrunk in the wake of his surprise defeat to Serbian Novak Djokovic in the Montreal Masters final.

The Australian Open and Wimbledon champion Federer has 7,140 points, with Spanish rival Rafael Nadal of Spain on 5,605 points.

Djokovic is third, up from number four, with 3,700 points after beating Nadal in the semis and the Swiss Federer in a final-set tie-break Sunday in Canada.

German Tommy Haas returned into the top 10 in ninth place with 1,950 points, with Russian Mikhail Youzhny also up three positions from 13 to 10 on 1,880 points.
