Islamabad : Pakistani troops killed four militants after they attacked a security check post in the troubled tribal region on Monday.
Army spokesman Major General Waheed Arshad confirmed the killing of three militants.
He said that 70 to 80 miscreants attacked the check post at 2 a.m.
The security forces surrounded the militants in South Waziristan and called more forces for support, correspondents said.
Officials said that the militants fired rockets and used small arms at the check post at Dargai, a town 25 kilometers east of Wana, the headquarters of South Waziristan, at 5 a.m.
No one from the security forces hurt in the attack, they said.
The Scouts Force launched a counter attack against the assailants, killing four of them, the officials said.
Several other militants were besieged by the security forces.
Locals aid that the security forces blocked the road for traffic between Wana and Tank, a major city at the edge of South Waziristan tribal region.
In another incident, two security personnel were injured in attacks on check posts in North Waziristan near the Afghan border late last night.
Local Taliban and security forces have been fighting in South and North Waziristan for five years.
Several peace deals were signed but giving any results.
Tribal elders from Waziristan boycotted a grand Pak-Afghan peace jirga or council concluded in Kabul on Sunday.
The government expects he jirga would produce positive results but it is feared that the jirga would further worsen the situation.
