Late Indian President Dr. SD Sharma’s 89th birth anniversary celebrated

Bhopal : Former President of India late Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma’s 89th birth anniversary was celebrated at New Delhi today with grace at his Samadhi Sthal ‘Karma Bhoomi’ near Shanti Van. All religion prayers & Bhajan programme were organized on the occasion.

According to reports reaching here Union Minister of State for Personnel & Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Pachauri, Madhya Pradesh Minister for Commerce & Industry Babulal Gaur and Minister of State for Mining & Culture Laxmikant Sharma, Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Motilal Vora and other dignitaries present on the occasion paid their floral tributes.

Late Dr. Sharma, who hailed from Bhopal, was known for high esteem for learning, humanism and generosity, as much as for his invaluable contributions in diverse areas of nation building, and for the cause of global peace and well being.

Dr. Sharma actively participated in the Quit India Movement of 1942 and in the Merger Movement of Bhopal and underwent imprisonment for the cause. He made invaluable contribution to the nation’s progress over a period spanning three decades both as a Legislator and as a Parliamentarian.

In the early years of independence Dr. Sharma was Chief Minister of Bhopal State and later a member of the State Cabinet in Madhya Pradesh and a Union Cabinet Minister. He held many important portfolios including those of Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and Maharashtra, Vice President of India (1987-1992) and President of India (1992-1997).
