The Cairo Emergency Supreme State Security Court sentenced four of the defendants to life imprisonment, two to 10 years in prison, said MENA.

Another suspect was sentenced to three-year imprisonment and two other defendants to one year in prison, said the report, adding that four were acquitted.

The court put off its ruling against the 14th defendant, who did not attend Monday’s trial due to health reasons, until Nov. 20.

In April of 2005, the Egyptian capital was hit by three terror attacks.

The first attack occurred on April 7 when Hassan Bashandi blew himself up in Al-Azhar district, killing three tourists in addition to himself and injuring 19 others.

The other two attacks took place simultaneously on April 30,2005. A suicide bomber killed himself and injured seven people at Abdel-Moneim Riyad Square, near the Egyptian national museum in downtown Cairo.

Meanwhile, two veiled women carried out another attack against tourists in the al-Sayeda Aisha neighborhood. After failing to attack a tourist bus, one of the women attackers killed her accomplice and then committed suicide.
