New Delhi : Bangladesh ended their campaign in the Nehru Cup international football tournament without a win as they went down tamely 0-3 to Kyrgyzstan in their last match at the Ambedkar Stadium here Friday.
With the loss, Bangladesh ended the five-nation tournament with just one point, while Kyrgyzstan kept alive their hopes of qualifying for the final with six points from three matches.
A brace from Lut Fullaev and a goal from Ruslan Djamshidov sealed the match in favour of Kyrgyzstan, which will face India in a do-or-die match Sunday. A draw would be enough for India to set-up a final date with Syria while Kyrgyzstan need a win to make it for the title clash.
It was lacklustre display from the Bangladesh team, which showed enough courage in their 0-1 loss to India in their previous match. But against Kyrgyzstan, the whole team seemed to be in disarray and both Fullaev and Djamshidov took advantage of the defensive lapses to score the goals.
The Bangladesh defence looked a tired lot, and taking advantage of this, Fullaev opened the scoring with a neat header from a precise corner-kick from Harchenko Vadim in the 29th minute.
“We played four matches in six days and so my boys were physically tired,” said Bangladesh coach Syed Nayeemuddin after the match.
The last two goals came in the second half but Bangladesh were lucky enough to escape with a 0-3 loss.
Fullaev headed in his second goal in the 53rd minute after he was fed by a neat cross again from Vadim, from the right side of the box. Three minutes later Djamshidov pegged the final nail in Bangladesh’s coffin when he got a pass off a deflection from a Bangladesh defender and guided it into the net.
