Amman : The joint committee of the Palestinian National Assembly’s (PNA) presidency and the executive committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) will convene after the legal committee holds its meeting here on September 1, said a PNA official on Saturday.
In a statement to KUNA, director of the PNA secretary general’s office Najeeb Al-Qaddoumi said the joint committee meeting was postponed due to lack of PNA quorum, explaining that the legal committee was a sub-committee of the assembly.
The legal committee, he said, would be meeting in Amman on Sept 1 to discuss the new parliamentary elections law in light of suggestions tendered by the PLO’s executive committee.
The joint committee has tasked the legal committee with preparing documents on the new elections law that took proportional representation into account, he explained.
The legal committee had met here a few days ago to discuss the same issue after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas issued an order for amending laws regulating legislative and presidential elections to guarantee proportional representation.
