Agartala : The Election Commission has asked the four election-bound states of Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Himachal Pradesh for a special summary revision of electoral rolls and to include all voters under the Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) scheme.
Elections in the four states are scheduled for February 2008.
“The two-month long summary revision would start in October and end Jan 1, 2008 as the qualifying date,” G.S.G. Ayyangar, chief electoral officer of Tripura, told reporters here Monday.
He said photo identity cards (EPIC) during voting would now be made compulsory.
Tripura tops the list in EPIC coverage in the country with 99.88 percent of the two million voters already covered by the scheme, followed by 99.03 percent in Kerala.
