Osaka : India’s long jumper Anju Bobby George finished ninth by clearing 6.53 metres at the World Athletics Championships here Tuesday.
Anju is the lone Indian athlete who reached the finals of the World Championship for the third time. But she neither matched her career-best of 6.83m, which she attained at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, not her season’s best of 6.65m.
Anju could not take off far in her first jump, which measured a modest 6.10m. She fouled her next before recovering in the third jump with a distance of 6.53m.
But it was not enough for her to find place in top eight, or the medal bracket.
