London : Ferrari’s Formula One team boss Jean Todt has said talks are ongoing with Ross Brawn regarding his potential return to the team once again as technical director.
Brawn was the mastermind behind Ferrari’s return to Formula One dominance when the Italian team won six consecutive constructors’ titles from 1999-2004.
At the end of the last F1 season Brawn opted for a sabbatical and has spent most of the last 10 months travelling around the world, British newspapers reported Thursday.
Now he is a man in demand as troubled Honda have made no secret of their desire to recruit the 52-year-old.
But at present Brawn is only discussing his future with Ferrari, although he has made it clear that should he return it will not be in his old position.
According to Todt, it is a case of finding “common ground” as he said: “We’ve had some discussions and at the moment no commitment on either side has been made.
“We are just looking at our options and maybe we will find some common ground, maybe we won’t.”
Even if there is no new role for Brawn, Todt added: “We will still always be friends and have some respect for each other.
“He has done tremendous work for Ferrari, and Ferrari has given him a lot as well, so the partnership has been good for him and the team.”
