S.N.S Sidhu, director of the MCD’s slum board, was arrested late Thursday for his alleged involvement in the fraudulent allotment of land meant for rehabilitation of slum dwellers in the capital, a CBI official said.

The matter had come to light when the CBI last month raided the north Delhi home of Ashok Malhotra, the alleged kingpin of the land scam. Malhotra, a contractor, was arrested Aug 7 from outside a private television news channel.

Known for his proximity to some key Delhi politicians, Malhotra had allegedly made millions of rupees in association with five DDA officials, several MCD officials and a private contractor by selling off plots meant for displaced slum-dwellers in northwest Delhi’s Dheerpur area and south Delhi’s Molarband Phase-II area.

The CBI had last month registered a case against the five DDA officers – deputy directors K.S. Verma and A.K. Mishra, assistant director J.R. Gaur and assistant engineers Shyam Babu and S.K. Sharma – for their alleged role in the scam.
