New Delhi : In a move to prevent counterfeiting of Indian currency, the Union Home Ministry has ordered intensified surveillance of borders while the Finance Ministry has suggested additional security features in notes.
The Home Ministry has directed its agencies to ensure patrolling on foot, by boats and vehicles, laying border ambushes and setting up observation posts all along the international border to prevent fake notes from coming into the country.
Upgrading of intelligence network and coordination with sister intelligence agencies besides conduct of special operations along the borders were some other important measures being taken up, sources in the ministry said.
They said the MHA had directed that modern surveillance equipment, including night vision devices, be introduced and fences be erected along the international boundary.
Increasing the number of border outposts (BOPs), deployment on the international border and construction of border roads have also been suggested by the Home Ministry, which has given instructions that vessels and water crafts of BSF water wing should be deployed in riverine segments of the international border.
Instructions have also been issued to all state governments, particularly border states, to be more vigilant.
