Agartala : The Election Commission (EC) has barred eight senior civil service officers from carrying out election duties in Tripura, officials said here Wednesday.
“The EC has taken this decision after it was found that the officers were neglecting their duties,” said G.S.G. Ayyangar, chief electoral officer of Tripura.
Elections to the 60-member assemblies each in Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya will be held in February 2008.
“The commission has asked the three states to revise electoral rolls and provide all voters with Elector’s Photo Identity Card (EPIC),” Ayyangar said.
The final electoral roll would be published in the first week of January 2008.
The Election Commission has also asked for a detailed report from the three states for deployment of security forces during the polls.
Ayyangar said after the ongoing assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, the chief election commissioner N. Gopalaswamy would visit the three northeastern states to review their poll preparedness.
