Government approves tidal power project in West Bengal

New Delhi : The government has approved the setting up of a 3.65-MW tidal power plant in the Sunderbans in West Bengal, Minister of New and Renewable Energy Vilas Muttemwar said here Friday.

The minister was replying to a question in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of Indian parliament.

“The formal sanction would be issued after the approval for investment is obtained,” the minister said.

An investment of Rs.540 million would be required, according to the detailed project report prepared for the proposed tidal power plant.

The project would be completed in 33 months from the date of sanction, the minister said.
