Bangalore : Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar was Saturday taken to a hospital for an MRI scan after he complained of back pain on the opening day of the third and final Test against India at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here.
Pakistani team’s media co-ordinator Javed Akhtar said that the 32-year-old ‘Rawalpindi Express’ complained of back pain and was taken out for an MRI scan.
“The latest position on his fitness will be informed after the day’s play,” the media coordinator said.
Akhtar, bowling with a waist belt tied under his shirt, sent down 10 overs, but went out of the field twice during that spell. Team physiotherapist Faisal Hayat gave him treatment on the sidelines, but obviously the pain did not subside.
Although Akhtar, playing his 46th Test, returned to the field after the lunch interval, within minutes of play resuming he again went out of the filed.
He has captured 177 wickets at an average of 25.59.
