Tripura court frames charge against Congress MLA

Agartala : A Tripura court has framed charges against sitting Congress legislator Birajit Sinha and five others following prima-facie evidences of their involvement in a murder case, officials said here Saturday.

During a panchayat election July 20, 2004, a local Communist Party of India-Marxist leader along with his bodyguard were shot dead.

The ruling CPI-M alleged that Sinha had masterminded the killings. Following the incident, the government ordered an inquiry.

“Officials of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) recently completed their investigation and had submitted their charge-sheets before the session judge court,” an official said. The court will start examining the witnesses Jan 28.

Reacting to this development Sinha said, “The Left Front has hatched a political conspiracy against me and is trying to manipulate the facts to protect criminals.”

Sinha, also the former chief of the Tripura Pradesh Congress said he was not involved in the incident and has full faith in the judiciary.
