Kolkata : Several passengers were believed injured after seven bogies of Delhi-bound Brahmaputra Mail got derailed near New Jalpaiguri in Northern Bengal.
Media reports said the accident took place near Nichbari Railway Station in the Katiya division of North-Eastern Railway at around 11.15 p.m. Sunday.
Official sources couldn’t confirm the exact number of wounded passengers but said no casualty was reported.
“The General Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF) and district police officials have already reached the spot with medical teams. Local people have also joined hands with the police in rescue operations,” a duty officer of Siliguri GRP told IANS.
The rescue operations were hampered due to road communication, which the official said, is not very good where the accident occurred.
