Hyderabad : Two bodies, which had mysteriously disappeared from the morgue of a government-run hospital here, were recovered Sunday with the kin of the deceased suspecting a racket to sell body parts.
The incident involves the Osmania General Hospital, one of the oldest and biggest government-run hospitals in Andhra Pradesh.
Relatives of the deceased created a ruckus in the morgue, alleging that the hospital employees were involved in selling the bodies.
Anji Reddy, 50, a resident of L.B. Nagar neighbourhood here, was injured in a road accident 10 days ago and was admitted to the hospital. He died Saturday night and the hospital staff shifted his body to mortuary.
However, his family members were stunned Sunday morning, as they could not locate his body at the morgue. The doctors on duty failed to give a satisfactory reply, evoking strong protests from the kin. They shouted slogans against the hospital authorities and demanded that the body of traced.
Tension prevailed in the hospital premises as additional policemen were posted to control the situation.
As pressure mounted on the hospital authorities, information reached the hospital that two bodies were found in the dried-up riverbed of the Musi under the Muslim Jung bridge near the hospital.
The morgue staff said the other body was that of a beggar, which was also missing since Saturday night.
The family members of the deceased were continuing their protest, demanding action against the guilty. They alleged that some hospital employees were hand in glove with those trading in the body parts of the dead.
