Speaking to Kuwait TV and KUNA Tuesday, Karzai lauded relations between Kuwait and Afghanistan, saying that the purpose of his first official visit to the country was to strengthen them in many spheres.

He indicated that the visit came at the invitation by the Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, adding that the visit was to express the gratitude of the Afghani people to Kuwait’s leadership and people.

On the possibility of real Kuwaiti investments in Afghanistan, Karzai stressed that chances for such a thing “are very real,” indicating he met with the chairman of the Kuwaiti Chambers of Commerce and Industry Ali Al-Ghanim, providing him with the numerous investment possibilities in Afghanistan.

He also mentioned a meeting with Director-General of Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) Abdelwahab Al-Bader, saying that relations with the fund have contributed to the development in his country since the 1970s.

The president revealed that the KFAED and the Afghanistan Ministry of Finance would work together on economic development funds in the country.

Meanwhile, Karzai shed light on the security situation in his country, indicating that stability and peace could be achieved through internal coordination between ministries responsible for security, and increasing international support against terrorism, labelling it as an “international responsibility.”

On regional anti-terrorism cooperation, the president revealed the establishment of a Pakistani-Afghani sub-committee for security cooperation, hoping that other regional states would aid in the efforts.

Continuous regional and international economic support would surely increase the capabilities of Afghanistan to fight terrorism, pointed out Karzai, thanking Kuwait for its support for the Afghan cause.
