Washington : The White House said on Tuesday that Israels plans to build new homes in the occupied Palestinian territories could “jeopardize” US efforts to resolve the Palestinian Israeli conflict.
Israel is considering to build around 300 new homes within the 1967 occupied territories in the West Bank, which is threatening to halt the negotiation track between Palestinians and Israelis nearly two weeks after the Annapolis conference last month.
“Obviously we are just starting the negotiations after the Annapolis conference, and everyone needs to respect that anything that is said or not defined well could jeopardize that process”, said White House spokeswoman Dana Perino in her daily press briefing.
Perino added that Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice has been in contact with Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni on this matter.
“This is a time that we should be building confidence and this is not something that builds confidence”, said Rice about Israel plans in her speech yesterday at the Womens Foreign Policy Group.
